The European semiconductor market declined 2.3% in April, compared to March, on a 3 month rolling average, in line with the worldwide trend. Data suggest negative developments in the average selling prices for some of the major product categories, such as DRAMS, microprocessors and logic chips. In dollar terms, sales of microprocessors and DRAMS dip significantly in April, and sales of logic products and optoelectronics performed under market average.

A good result was reported for flash memories – both Nand and Nor- Digital Signal Processors, sensors and actuators and analogue integrated circuits.
Looking at segments, European sales for computer and industrial applications increased over March, while communication, consumer and automotive applications declined.

European Semiconductor sales in April 2007 amounted to US$ 3.310 billion according to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), down 2.3% versus the previous month. This corresponds to a 2.4% growth compared to the same month last year. On a YTD basis semiconductor sales increased by 5.1% versus the same period in the year 2006.

The exchange rate of the Euro compared to the US$ increased further its impact on the growth data in the recent months. Measured in Euro, semiconductor sales in April 2007 were EURO 2.494 billion, down 3.4% on previous month and down 6.7% versus the same month a year ago. On a YTD basis semiconductor sales showed a decline of 3.8% versus the same period in the year 2006.

On a worldwide basis, semiconductor sales in April 2007 were US$ 19.916 billion, down 2.1% versus the previous month. This results in an increase of 1.6% versus the same month in 2006 and on a YTD basis it results in a growth rate of 3.7%.
