German engineering conglomerate Siemens has said that its Power Transmission & Distribution unit plans to create a joint venture with Infineon Technologies for the development and production of power semi-conductors.Infineon will hold 60% in the joint venture and Siemens the remaining 40%, stated a Siemens spokesman. He declined to give financial details. A memorandum of understanding has already been signed, and the contract will probably be signed in September, he said. Siemens and Infineon already have a joint venture for semiconductor development. With the second joint venture, Siemens secures the supply of "special semi-conductors needed for the construction of high-voltage, direct current electric power transmission systems," the Siemens spokesman said. The joint venture will be called Infineon Technologies Bipolar & Co. KG.
