Semiconductor refurb company sells off spares business
Point 35 Microstructures has announced the sale of its Parabilis semiconductor spares business to RTS Spares.
Point 35 Microstructures has announced the sale of its Parabilis semiconductor spares business to RTS Spares. The sale agreement results in the transfer of all United Kingdom based personnel and assets to RTS Spares in exchange for an undisclosed sum. The Parabilis business was developed by Point 35 Microstructures to support its core semiconductor manufacturing system refurbishment operations. However, the development of the memsstar range of MEMS manufacturing equipment has resulted in the company deciding to focus on its core strategy of equipment development and remanufacturing. Mike Leavy, CEO of Point 35, said: "as we developed our refurbishment business the addition of a spares capability complemented our activities. Now we are following our business strategy of transitioning to a comprehensive equipment supplier to the semiconductor and MEMS industry it is time to ensure focus on our core business. Parabilis will equally benefit from the same focus from RTS Spares". RTS Spares has been a long-term partner of Parabilis in the spares business and the integration of the two companies, to be known as Parabilis Technology , provides the opportunity to focus on the special requirements of the spares supply business in the US ,Europe and Japan. It is planned to complement their offices in Scotland and Texas with a facility in Japan by the end of 2007. Gerry MacNeill, Managing Director of Parabilis UK said: "We have had a long and successful partnership between RTS and Point 35 in terms of infrastructure and integrated sales activities. As our spares business grows in the US, Europe and Japan, there is an excellent opportunity for increased profitability by the integration of RTS Spares and Parabilis to form a global organisation."
