There has been speculation that Sony Corporation would sell some parts of its business, such as its chip manufacturing operations. The sale is expected to include the manufacturing business for the ‘Cell' chip used in Sony's PlayStation 3 video games console amongst other sophisticated gadgets.
It has been estimated that the deal, to be completed by March, is worth nearly US$858 million.
