Memstech responds to investigation
Mems Technology Berhad (Memstech) released a statement by K. Sooriakumar, CEO of Memstech, in response to a patent infringement investigation initiated by the International Trade Commission (ITC) at the request of Knowles Electronics LLC (Knowles).
The ITC is a special court focused on preventing products from entering the United States if they are found to unfairly compete with the products of U.S. Industries. It should be noted that the ITC investigation is limited to silicon microphones and does not affect any other products made by the Mems Technology Group of Companies.
"We are disappointed to see that Knowles continues to choose to compete with Memstech and its other competitors in the courtroom rather than the marketplace. A previous lawsuit by Knowles against AAC Acoustic Technologies Holdings was unsuccessful and we expect that the present action against Memstech will also be unsuccessful. Our policy is to respect the valid and enforceable intellectual property rights of others and to take licenses where appropriate. In that regard, Memstech's current and future products are based upon its own innovative technology. We believe that we do not and will not infringe any valid claims of the patents asserted by Knowles. We understand that by initiating an investigation, the International Trade Commission is not taking any position about whether patent claims by Knowles or their patents have any merit. We have retained experienced counsel to vigorously defend us against these unfounded claims made by Knowles and will support our customers during this unnecessary proceeding."
Memstech designs and manufactures MEMS based products, as a variety based supplier in the MEMS Industry. The products include: Pressure sensors, Accelerometers, Thermopile Assembly Services, Thermopile Arrays, Binary Lens and Silicon Acoustic Products. The company focuses on delivering products, services and technology to suit customer design specific products, standard MEMS based products, MEMS manufacturing services and MEMS wafer fabrication services.
