SEMI gains analysis potential and a huge fab data base

News
The industry association acquires World Fab Watch and 300 mm Fab Report completes offering of wafer fab database products available through SEMI
SEMI and Strategic Marketing Associates (SMA) announced that SEMI has acquired the World Fab Watch database and the 300 mm Fab report from SMA. The acquisition includes ownership of the SMA website. This completes the acquisition announced one year ago by SEMI of wafer fab database products that included FabFutures, Fab Construction Monitor, Fab Equipment Monitor (formerly FabExpenditures), FabFutures LE (formerly FabTimeline) and Fab Capacity Report. SEMI and SMA have collaborated for 13 years on the joint marketing and sales of World Fab Watch, and in the past year collaboration has extended to a strategic partnership to jointly share in fab research activities. Christian Gregor Dieseldorff, formerly of SMA, joined SEMI one year ago as senior analyst and director of market research and he will lead fab research activities at SEMI. Under the terms of the agreement, George Burns, president of SMA, will continue to advise and assist SEMI in fab research for the complete suite of fab information products he developed and has now transferred to SEMI. The SEMI market research team includes analysts at SEMI offices in San Jose and Shanghai, with a soon to be hired analyst at SEMI Taiwan. The complete suite of fab database products contains a comprehensive and highly dynamic set of information, which is updated quarterly, on the latest global fab trends. It is a resource that multiplies the market research capabilities of its subscribers, allowing them to more effectively target key customers and accurately analyse product trends with relative ease. "World Fab Watch has been long recognised as premier source of information on semiconductor fabs globally," said Stanley T. Myers, president and CEO of SEMI. "SEMI and its analyst team look forward to continuing this product and to support industry needs for valuable information on fab investment activities." "I'm very pleased," Burns notes, "to complete the handoff of these fab information products to an organisation that is uniquely qualified to serve our respective customer bases with fab information."
