Oerlikon Space becomes new Supply Chain Partner of Carl Zeiss SMT. Mechatronic component supplier honored
Carl Zeiss SMT, a manufacturer of optical systems for chip fabrication has now designated the Zurich based company Oerlikon Space AG as a Carl Zeiss SMT Supply Chain Partner. Oerlikon Space supplies Carl Zeiss SMT with highly specific shutter components for lithography optics. These shutters open and shut without lubricants. “This is an important property, as only in this way can the shutters comply with the highly clean ambient conditions demanded for chip fabrication,“ explains Gerhard Fürter, Vice President Technology, Lithography Optics at Carl Zeiss SMT. “We are very pleased that Oerlikon Space has taken part in the qualification process to become a Supply Chain Partner of Carl Zeiss SMT. This strengthens our mutual trust and consolidates the customer/supplier partnership. Also for our customers, the global chip industry, this is an important symbol of maximum reliability and performance,“ is how Peter Schlindwein, Director of Supply Chain Management at Carl Zeiss SMT, describes the significance of this designation. Dr. Axel Deich, Head of Oerlikon Space AG is delighted at the company’s designation as a Carl Zeiss SMT Supply Chain Partner: “We see this as confirmation of the excellent co-operation between Carl Zeiss SMT and Oerlikon Space in the past few years. For us, this partnership offers an interesting perspective. We have been able to transfer technical know how which we have acquired in the field of aerospace to a “terrestrial“ application, therefore opening up a new field of business to Oerlikon Space." Oerlikon Space is the first mechatronic component manufacturer to be designated by Carl Zeiss SMT as a Supply Chain Partner. Until now, this status has been attained by three suppliers of optical materials for lens elements and mirrors: the US company Corning, the fused quartz division of the Hanau based Heraeus technology group in Germany and the Asahi Glass Corporation (Japan).
