Chip design market to rise in India
Estimates expect the chip design market to exceed the $7.37b mark by 2008.
The Indian Semiconductor Association and the IDC (India) published a report that the Indian semiconductor design services industry is expected to exceed $7.37 billion this year.
The report, called ‘India semiconductor and embedded design service industry (2007-2010): Market, Technology and Ecosystem Analysis', also predicts the embedded software market to get to the $9 billion mark within the next two years. It is also mentioned that the VLSI design service market is thought to be around $1.38 billion, and the hardware design services market around $680 million by 2010. Furthermore, the VLSI design part will possibly hire approximately 23,525 people by that time.
The embedded software area may employ 179,824 people and the hardware area about 15,482 within the next two years.
All estimations differ substantially from predictions made in 2007.
The Indian semiconductor and embedded design service industry is thought to grow at 21.7 percent until 2010. The entire Indian design market was an estimated $6b.
81 percent of this income came from the area of embedded software, way in front of VSLI design with 13 percent and hardware design at 6 percent.
The workforce in total in the design services industry in India was approximately 130,000 last year. The majority of this were in embedded software (82%) followed by VSLI design (11%) and hardware (7%).
Due to growing expertise and capabilities in complex end to end design, substantial IP development and local potential, determine the growth of the design sector in India.
"The Indian semicon design industry with over 200 companies is on a strong growth trajectory. Our growth is nearly 22 percent which is three times the global growth rate of around seven per cent. We are looking eastward for business and collaboration heralding a new era in the future of the sector", ISA President Poornima Shenoy said.
IDC India's Country Manager, Kapil Dev Singh mentioned that the Indian semiconductor and embedded design services market has grown consistently over the last five years and the market is expected to cross the $7.37 billion mark in 2008.
