Metryx continues to win
Metryx, a supplier of mass metrology equipment to the semiconductor manufacturing industry, announced that it has been honoured with the United Kingdom's Queen's Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category. This is the second time the company has been honoured with the Queen's Award, having been recognised in the International Trade category in 2007.
"We have experienced tremendous growth over the past six years due to the acceptance of our innovative mass metrology technology," stated Dr. Adrian Kiermasz, CEO of Metryx. "It is a great honour to have the technology recognised with the Queen's Award, and complements our 2007 Queen's Award for International Trade. Recognition for Innovation, in particular, highlights the clear benefits that mass metrology brings to semiconductor manufacturing."
"In 2001, we set out to identify where there were clear holes in the semiconductor manufacturing process that may present an opportunity to bring something new to market," added Rob Wilby, Metryx CTO and co-founder. "We identified metrology as an area of opportunity, and looked at it as a simple problem requiring a simple approach. By applying the theory of mass, we were able to develop a truly innovative technology that has had a significant impact on the process. It is a testament to the team here to bring that vision to reality and be recognised in such a distinguished way."
The Queen's Award is the most prestigious award a company can win in the United Kingdom. The awards are made each year by The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an advisory committee that includes representatives of government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions.
The Innovation category recognises companies able to demonstrate either outstanding innovation, sustained over not less than two years, or continuous innovation or development, sustained over not less than five years. Winning companies have also achieved commercial success through innovative products or services. Achievements may be assessed for any of the following: the invention, design, production (of goods), performance (of services, including advice), marketing, distribution and after sale support (of goods or services).
Representatives from Metryx will attend three separate ceremonies to accept their award. The first is in the presence of The Duke of Gloucester, at One Whitehall Place. The second takes place in July at Buckingham Palace in the presence of Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth. The third ceremony will take place on the Metryx premises.
