Not the best outlook for Japan’s semi sales
The Semiconductor Association of Japan says sales for 2008 are down 11.2%. Chipmakers are cutting back on capital spending.
After 6 years and an all time high in 2007, semiconductor sales in Japan are expected to decrease in fiscal 2008 according to an industry body.
Chipmakers, such as dynamic random access memory (DRAM) producers, are cutting back their capital spending following falling prices as reported by the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEA).
This is an extreme contrast considering a 4.4% increase in sales in fiscal 2007 with a record 1.069.4 billion Yen. SEA also forecasts an increase of 2.2% in 2009 and a 5.3 gain in 2010.
