Macronix Reaches 100 Million Unit Milestone of Automotive Device Shipments

News

Since decision to enter into the Automotive Memory market in late 2009, Macronix has made measurable strides in terms of market, customer, OEM Auto maker and Eco-system penetration the company says.

As of today, Macronix has shipped more than 100 million automotive qualified (AEC-Q100 compliant) products to its customers. Given the challenges to enter into the automotive market the requirements for well-established systems to support the same, and the extensive product design-in to achieve mass production timescales, this more than 100 million units shipment milestone certainly represents a significant achievement and endorsement from the market.

"˜As a company we are very proud of our progress in this very difficult and demanding segment', said Miin Wu, Founder, CEO and Chairman of Macronix. "˜It shows the recognition by our customers, OEM's and Chipset vendors, of the high quality solutions and the fundamental reliability that Macronix can supply'.   Dr. Wu further added, "˜we are not complacent though, and will continue to improve and innovate to add value to the Automotive memory market. New product development as demonstrated through our OctaFlash, OctaRAM and OctaBus solutions and our recent announcement of fully compliant AEC-Q100 NAND, show that we are delivering our commitments to keep innovating and to assist in solving customers challenges.'

Moving forward, the demand and performance levels required for automotive storage will continue to increase and companies will need to show a deep commitment to this segment to meet their customers' needs. Based on the broad and ever growing product portfolio offered by Macronix, along with the fact that the company operates its own 3 fabrication facilities, Macronix is able to offer a real product longevity program to provide Tier1's product lifecycle security.

Dr Wu also highlighted that "Through our own fabs, we are able to offer critical benefits to our customers. Firstly, we have developed our own proprietary sNova system to closely control our process and product design, and wafer manufacturing and test quality control, which ultimately provides class leading PPB levels within our products. Our quality levels are fundamentally high though due to our use of single bit-per cell Floating gate technology, which is inherently more robust and reliable over time compared to some other technologies." Commenting with regards to Macronix' recent significant market gains and increased demand, Dr. Wu remarked "We have made significant investments to expand our manufacturing capacities over the last few years and are soon again to make further investments to ensure that, as our total business grows, we are able to commit to a continuous and dependable supply capability, which is critical for the long term support to our customers. These benefits along with its solution expertise, is a key factor to Macronix's becoming the first choice for many automotive players."

The memory dependency within automotive solutions is growing significantly due to the development of applications such as:-

- Digital Clusters

- Autonomous driving functions

- Event data recording

- Over-The-Air Updates

- Security

- Sensor and ADAS applications
