Samco to Hold MEMS Workshop in New Delhi
Samco, a Japan-based semiconductor process equipment developer and manufacturer, will hold a thin film technology workshop at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) in New Delhi on March 8, 2017. The workshop will focus on MEMS applications that are fundamental to nanofabrication and R&D.
"This workshop in New Delhi gives researchers and engineers the opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in MEMS technology from experts in their fields," says Samco chairman and CEO Osamu Tsuji.
Keynote speakers will be University of Tokyo professor Hiroshi Toshiyoshi and IIT Delhi director and professor V. Ramgopal Rao.
"We are looking forward to hosting this MEMS workshop with Samco," says Dr. Rao. "IIT Delhi is always open to these sorts of collaborations with Japan and other countries, and these presentations should be useful for students and researchers who are interested in MEMS applications."
One reason the company is holding a MEMS-focused workshop, Tsuji says, is because these devices have been receiving more international attention due to the rise of IoT-enabled markets.
"We've also seen a steadily increasing demand for these kinds of workshops and seminars in India," says Tsuji, partly because the thin film industry is expected to grow in the future as the Government of India pushes initiatives to promote science and innovation.
"One challenge in the country was that the infrastructure for high-end research in India was slow, but now the government is investing heavily," says Dr. Rao.
Such investments include the construction of a prototype manufacturing facility at IIT Bombay, which was the location of Samco's first MEMS workshop in India last February. Over 150 researchers and engineers participated in a live discussion with leading MEMS experts from both India and Japan.
"Samco's philosophy is `To Contribute to the Industry and Science of the World with Thin Film Technology', and so we organize MEMS workshops in India with the goal of contributing to the scientific communities there," says Tsuji.
This year, he adds, the company expects a "lively discussion and technological exchange" with around 300 attendants.
