Imec revenues grow 6.7 percent in FY 2012

News

The R&D centre has achieved steady growth to new and existing strategic research partnerships

Imec, an international R&D centre specialising in nanoelectronics, has reported financial results for the fiscal year ended December 31st, 2012.

Revenue for 2012 totalled €320 million, a 6.7 percent increase from the previous year.

The 320 million euro figure includes the revenue generated through collaborations with more than 600 companies and 200 universities worldwide, a yearly grant from the Flemish government totalling €48.2 million, and a €8.2 million grant from the Dutch government to support the Holst Centre.

"We continued to expand and renew our R&D partnerships on semiconductor technology scaling, as well as on new emerging areas such as the biomedical field," says Luc Van den hove, CEO of imec. "Our robust growth last year is a testament to the strength and value these partnerships add to the development of next-generation technology and its applications."

In 2012, imec's talent base grew to 2,051 people, representing 75 nationalities. Of these, 377 were residents, visiting researchers from partner companies and institutes, and 276 were Ph.D. researchers. 122 employees are based at the Holst Centre, an open-innovation initiative between imec and TNO located in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

"Given the current challenging economic backdrop, I am thrilled with the steady growth we have realised the last two years," adds Van den hove. "Thanks to the efforts and talent of our employees, as well as the strength of our strategic research partnerships, we achieved significant breakthroughs in all our research areas."
