Advantest in the top 30 U.S. EPA top tech and telecom partners

Semiconductor test equipment supplier Advantest Corporation's U.S. subsidiary Advantest America, Inc. has earned a spot on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Top 30 Tech and Telecom list.

This is the first time that Advantest America has been ranked on EPA's quarterly list, which represents the 30 largest green power users among technology and telecommunications companies within the Green Power Partnership.

"We congratulate Advantest America, Inc. for using renewable energy and taking a leadership position on the environment," says Blaine Collison, director of EPA's Green Power Partnership. "Advantest America's impressive green power commitment helps to reduce carbon pollution and provides an excellent example for other organisations."

Advantest America purchases more than 12 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, enough to meet the company's electricity needs. This is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of nearly 2,000 passenger vehicles per year, or the CO2 emissions from the electricity use of more than 1,000 average American homes annually.

In addition, Advantest America's purchase of renewable-energy certificates (RECs) from Renewable Choice Energy qualifies the company for EPA's Green Power Leadership Club, a distinction given to organisations that have exceeded EPA's minimum purchase requirements.

The EPA's Green Power Partnership works with a wide variety of leading organisations - from Fortune 500 companies to local, state and federal governments as well as a growing number of colleges and universities. The organisation's Top Partner rankings highlight the annual green power use of leading Green Power Partners within the U.S. and across individual industry sectors.

Using green power helps to reduce the environmental impact of electricity use and supports the development of new renewable-generation capacity throughout the U.S. Usage amounts reflect U.S. operations only and are sourced from U.S.-based green power resources. Organisations can meet the EPA's partnership requirements by using any combination of three different options: renewable-energy certificates, on-site generation and utility green power products.

"We are proud of our company-wide commitment to fostering clean operations and practices as we continue to advance the state of semiconductor test technology," comments Keith Lee, president and CEO of Advantest America, Inc. "It's an honour to have our dedicated efforts recognised at this national level by the EPA."

Advantest has an in-house Environmental Management System that promotes global environmental conservation efforts. Under the system's guidelines, individual employees strive to protect the environment while carrying out their daily responsibilities.

In addition to upholding all environmental laws and regulations as well as voluntary standards, the company strives to provide environmentally friendly products throughout their life cycles, from procurement of material to waste disposal, through energy conservation, improved recyclability and the elimination of hazardous substances.

Advantest is a producer of automatic test equipment (ATE) for the semiconductor industry and a manufacturer of measuring instruments used in the design and production of electronic instruments and systems.

Its systems and products are integrated into the most advanced semiconductor production lines in the world. The company also focuses on R&D for emerging markets that benefit from advancements in nanotech and terahertz technologies, and has introduced multi-vision metrology scanning electron microscopes essential to photomask manufacturing, as well as 3D imaging and analysis.

Colorado-based Renewable Choice Energy is a  global provider green power, carbon offsets, sustainability consulting, and renewable energy advisory services and is recognised as a trusted partner to numerous major brands. Recipient of the Green Power Supplier of the Year award in 2012 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Renewable Choice is a certified 'Best for the Environment' B Corporation.
