Wi-LAN acquires semiconductor patents from IXYS
Wi-LAN Inc. has acquired a portfolio of semiconductor patents from IXYS CH GmbH related to microcontroller technology.
WiLAN believes the portfolio has current applicability to safety-critical applications used in the aerospace, medical, industrial and automotive markets. A share of the revenue generated from licensing the acquired patents will be paid to IXYS.
"We are pleased to have acquired these patents from IXYS," says Jim Skippen, President & CEO. "The portfolio is an example of the quality patents that we seek to license. We assess many possible acquisitions but are very selective in the patents that we will bring into our semiconductor licensing program."
WiLAN, founded in 1992, is a technology innovator and licensing company. WiLAN has licensed its intellectual property to over 275 companies worldwide. Inventions in its portfolio have been licensed by companies that manufacture or sell a wide range of communication and consumer electronics products including 3G and 4G handsets, Wi-Fi-enabled laptops, Wi-Fi and broadband routers, xDSL infrastructure equipment, cellular base stations and digital TV receivers. WiLAN has a large and growing portfolio of more than 3,000 issued or pending patents.
