Toshiba shipping IC samples for automotive applications

News

The devices support high output current in combination with an external power transistor
Toshiba Corporation has launched the TB9005FNG, a 5 V constant voltage regulator for application in automotive systems.

Sample shipments have started, with mass production scheduled to start in December 2014.

The TB9005FNG supports 1A or higher output current in combination with external power transistors, allowing use in automotive applications that require high output current.

The IC also incorporates system reset functions for reset of microcontrollers when their voltage is lowered or clock signals are cut off, which contributes to improved safety for automotive systems.

Applications can be used for automotive applications using 5 V microcontrollers.

Key Features of the TB9005FNG

Output Voltage                                5.0V ± 0.15V

Operation Current                            90μA (typ) (Vin = 12 V, Ta=25°C) at 5 V output

System Reset Functions                  Low-voltage reset, power-on reset, and watchdog timer

Low Voltage Detection                    Threshold selectable either 4.2 V (typ) or 4.7 V (typ)

Current Limiter                                Adjustable with external resistor

Operating Power Supply

Voltage Range:                               6 to 18 V

Operating Temperature

Range                                            -40 to 125°C

Package                                          SSOP-20-P-225-0.65 A

Toshiba says the product can supply more than 2A output current, when used with Toshiba power transistor TTB002 or TTA005.
