US Defence Department Selects FlexTech Alliance to Build Next-Gen Technology
Dr. Terry Brewer has confirmed that the U.S. Department of Defence has selected the FlexTech Alliance, a consortium of microelectronics industry leaders including Brewer Science, to receive funding to create a Flexible Hybrid Electronics Manufacturing Innovation Institute (FHE MII) as part of the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation.
The tech companies selected to operate the FHE MII will be tasked with creating the next generation of small, flexible, low-power devices to keep our armed forces on the leading edge of technology. The products will be manufactured in the United States by our best and brightest innovators from the Midwest, Silicon Valley, and the East Coast.
"This centre represents a new era for electronics manufacturing and for our nation," said Dr. Terry Brewer, founder and CEO of Brewer Science. "This collaboration of industry leaders will connect us and protect us in ways that are not achievable today. In addition to improving our safety and security, the centre will drive robust economic growth across many industries in the U.S. including our growing advanced manufacturing sector capabilities. We are excited about the work ahead and for the opportunity to be a part of this national initiative."
Dr. Brewer has been a leading national advocate for the FHE MII for the Defence Department as well as a network of advanced manufacturing centres to grow innovation on U.S. shores.
Dr. Brewer testified before Congress in support of the Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act, sponsored by U.S. Senators Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and signed into law last year. The landmark law creates a new network of advanced manufacturing centres across the country to help ensure the United States remains a global leader in advanced manufacturing and innovation. While not a part of this specific legislation, the new FHE MII is based on the concept of collaboration for which tech leaders across the country have advocated.
The new FHE MII will be located in Silicon Valley and managed by the FlexTech Alliance consortium. The FHE MII will work on state-of-the-art design and manufacturing for the next generation of sensors and electronics.
Centres such as the new FHE MII are meant to bridge the gaps among research, development, and commercialization of flexible hybrid electronics.
